Why another percentage calculator
Because existing calculators have outdated UIs and provide bad user experience. Percentage calculations are very common and there should be a tool that is intuitive and easy to use. This is exactly where this app comes in - it makes boring calculations a bit more fun!
The percentage calculator app was created as a modern alternative to existing calculator apps. It provides a user friendly interface that balances between math and natural language. In addition it is fully optimised use on any device - mobile, tablet or desktop.
How to use
- Each calculation is presented as a question as close as possible to how a human would ask it but with placeholders - form fields. Where one can fill the actual values they want to calculate.
- Under each calculation the formula used is shown for reference. The form fields themselves support whole numbers like 1, 2, 10, 134 etc. and fractions - 10.3, 2.512. Fractions can also be defined with a comma - 21,123.
- Upon an invalid value encorntered in the form fields the calculator will return an error and not proceed with the caluclaton.
- There is a reset button for each calculation that allows for quick reset of the form to its initial state.
- The small info icon at the bottom right allows you to quickly remind yourself with an example if this is the right question for the calculation you want to make.
Supported calculations
The calculator supports the three most common questions:
- What is the result of X% of Y?
- What is the % change from old to new value?
- What % is X of Y?
What is the result of X% of Y?
When you want to find how much or what percentage you will pay or gain. This is useful for calculating amount of tax, interest on a loan, or a discount on a purchase. You can ask questions like:
- What is the amount of tax I will pay at X% tax on my earnings (Y)?
- What is the discount of X% of the price for my purchase (Y)?
- What is the amount I will pay at X% interest on my loan amount (Y)?
What is the % change from old to new?
When you want to find the increase/descrese between two values. This is useful for calculating price or salary changes, investments performance, personal progress.
- What is the increase/decrease (%) of this product (new) compared to the previous price (old)?
- What is my return on investment (%) of the if stock price (new) compared to previous price (old)?
- How much faster did I run (%) if I ran a lap to 6 mins (new) instead of 8 mins (old)?
What % is X of Y?
When you want to find out how much one value is compared to another. This is useful for calculating discounts, budget tracking, or result on a test. You can ask questions like:
- What % is the spent amount (X) out of my total budget (Y)?
- What % is the discount if I paid (X) instead of the original (Y)?
- What % is my test result if I have (X) correct answers out of the total questions (Y)?
